Hot cross buns for a very Happy Easter 2013!
A chilly Easter break in the UK for Red Bistro and a bake-up to warm the heart even if spring proper is a way off yet in this part of Europe. Hot cross buns just have to make an appearance on the Easter Sunday table. The waft of cinnamon, candied peel and baking bread was hard to resist at midnight last night – which is about when I finished making them! But, holding off just long enough to photo them, we gobbled down a couple with morning coffee today. The rest for ‘high tea’ later!
I’ll post up the recipe tonight as these buns, crosses left off, are perfect coffee time treats all year round. The recipe I used is one from Paul Hollywood, master baker and judge par excellent (and hyper discerning and critical) of the BBC’s famed ‘Great British Bake-Off’ series. I think mine pass muster…for a first attempt. Well, anyway, this family is pleased with the results. Paul, we’ll be thinking of you as munch them!
Happy Easter to all!
